Baseball Recap: Weston Takes a Loss

Weston extended their losing streak to five on Monday, dropping their season record down to 5-10 in the process. They came up short against the Masuk Panthers, falling 11-0. The Trojans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

As for Masuk, they moved to 8-7 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak. That looming 11-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.

For Masuk's part, not much got past Jacob Mondo, who gave up just two hits and racked up eight Ks to keep Weston off the board. Mondo also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Panthers are 5-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-6 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Masuk let Christopher Cascella and Steven Curtin run wild. Cascella went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Curtin went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those two runs gave Cascella a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jackson Zylick, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Weston will challenge rival New Milford at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Masuk is set to face off against their familiar foe Newtown at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
