Basketball Recap: Connersville Comes Up Short

After flying high against Lawrenceburg last Saturday, Connersville came back down to earth. The Connersville Spartans took a blow against the Greensburg Pirates on Tuesday, falling 75-39. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 73rd, while the Pirates are ranked 11th).

Connersville's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Serenity Pennington, who went 7 for 13 on her way to 17 points. Pennington is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Kendyl Bottomley was another key player, putting up seven points along with eight rebounds and five assists.

Connersville's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 7-4. As for Greensburg, their victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-0.

Connersville will welcome South Dearborn at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Connersville is facing South Dearborn at the right time seeing as South Dearborn is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Greensburg, they will head out to face off against South Ripley at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Greensburg's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
