Baseball Recap: Lincoln Southwest Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Lincoln Southwest, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They walked away with a 5-2 victory over the Fremont Tigers on Monday. This was payback for the Silver Hawks, who suffered a 10-5 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Aiden Stelling tossed a big game, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and not a single walk). Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Landon Sandy, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple was his first of the season. Luke Mitchell was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.

Lincoln Southwest now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Fremont, their loss was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lincoln Southwest and Lincoln Southeast will meet in a classic East v. West matchup at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Lincoln Southeast has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.2 runs per game on average), something Lincoln Southwest will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Fremont, they will head out on the road to take on Papillion-LaVista South at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Papillion-LaVista South's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Fremont's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
