Preview: Point Pleasant Big Blacks vs. Nitro Wildcats
Point Pleasant is 1-9 against Nitro since December of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Point Pleasant Big Blacks will head out on the road to face off against the Nitro Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Tuesday, Point Pleasant beat Buffalo 59-48. The win was all the more spectacular given Point Pleasant's disadvantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 569th, while Buffalo is ranked 77th).
Josh Chapman was a one-man wrecking crew for Point Pleasant as he dropped a double-double on 28 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Chapman has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Grayson Tucker, who scored 12 points.
Meanwhile, Nitro waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with five straight wins but they left with six. They strolled past Hoover with points to spare, taking the game 59-40. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up ten more assists than your opponent, as Nitro did.
Nitro got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ashton Crouch out in front who scored 19 points along with eight rebounds. Crouch has been hot recently, having posted 19 or more points the last three times he's played. Ty Stephens was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with five steals.
Point Pleasant's win ended a eight-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-14. As for Nitro, they pushed their record up to 20-2 with that win, which was their 12th straight at home.
Things could have been worse for Point Pleasant, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 58-43 loss to Nitro in their previous meeting on February 2nd. Can Point Pleasant avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
