Baseball Recap: Oak Grove Wins Going Away Against Thorsby

The Oak Grove Tigers made easy work of the Thorsby Rebels on Tuesday and carried off an 8-2 victory. Considering the Tigers have won six matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Wiley Hicks made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

In other batting news, Oak Grove let Dalton Troncalli and Brawley Burns run wild. Troncalli went a perfect 1-for-1 with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI, while Burns got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those four stolen bases gave Troncalli a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Charlie Shivers, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and one double.

Oak Grove pushed their record up to 11-9 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Thorsby, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 12-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Oak Grove will head out to challenge Fayetteville at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday. As for Thorsby, they will venture away from home to take on Fairhope at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
