Basketball Recap: AJ Guerra Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Covenant

Covenant Christian won against Pantego Christian last Tuesday with 60 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. The Covenant Christian Cougars managed a 60-56 victory over the Covenant Knights. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 64-52 back in January.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Covenant Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than AJ Guerra, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Aaron Turner, who went 7 for 12 on his way to 19 points.

Covenant's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Josh Hook, who went 7 of 12 en route to 19 points and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Thomason, who posted 15 points.

Covenant Christian is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a massive bump to their 9-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.2 points per game. As for Covenant, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 19-12.

Covenant Christian wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 78-44 win against Coram Deo Academy on the 28th. As for Covenant, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 50-39 defeat against Prince of Peace on the 28th.
