Football Recap: Weiss Snags Seventh Victory in Last Eight Games

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Weiss walked away with it. They came out on top against the La Porte Bulldogs by a score of 42-35 on Friday. The win almost wasn't to be: the Wolves were down 35-14 in the second quarter.

Jaxon Schad had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 95 yards and a pair of TDs on only 12 carries, while also throwing for 163 yards and two touchdowns. Those 95 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Jahmari Wilson helped out on the ground, rushing for 91 yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Weiss was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 344 rushing yards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their rushing yard total in three consecutive contests.

When it comes to explaining why La Porte lost, don't look at Sean Simon. Despite the final result, he rushed for 127 yards and one score. Simon is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 105 every time he's taken the field this season.

Weiss has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.1 points over those games. As for La Porte, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-2.

Looking ahead, Weiss will challenge Lufkin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. La Porte does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
