Football Recap: Pocola Starts Season with Win Against Antlers

Pocola had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They really took it to the Antlers Bearcats for the full four quarters, racking up a 42-7 victory. The Indians have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Bearcats on Friday, too.

Jaseir Posey had an outrageously good game as he threw for 402 yards and four TDs while completing 77.8% of his passes, and also rushed for 32 yards and one touchdown. His passing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 356 passing yards dating back to last season. Jaryus Birdsong was another key player, picking up 93 receiving yards and one score.

Pocola didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Antlers to a completion percentage of just 35.3%. The team can thank Logan Dunigan for the heroic effort on defense: he. Given Posey's standout performance, it's clear Antlers' secondary just wasn't on the same level.

Pocola didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Antwoine Thomas and Dunigan. Pocola got some further help from Ty Jerrell: he picked up two sacks and made seven total tackles.

Pocola will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Spiro at 7:00 p.m. on the 12th. As for Antlers, they are taking a road trip to take on Coalgate at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
