Basketball Recap: Victory Christian Academy Takes a Loss

If Victory Christian Academy was riding high fresh off their 72-49 takedown of Mater Dei Catholic last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Victory Christian Academy Knights came up short against the Montgomery Aztecs on Monday, falling 70-46. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 218th, while the Aztecs are ranked 11th).

JJ Sanchez was his usual excellent self, shooting 4-for-6 from beyond the arc and almost dropping a double-double on 25 points and nine rebounds for Montgomery. Xair Mendez was another key player, going 8 for 16 on his way to 19 points in addition to five boards and three steals.

Victory Christian Academy's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 10-10. As for Montgomery, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 20-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Victory Christian Academy will square off against Olympian at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Olympian will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something Victory Christian Academy surely won't give up without a fight. As for Montgomery, they will take on Mater Dei Catholic at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Montgomery is facing Mater Dei Catholic at the right time seeing as Mater Dei Catholic is stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
