Basketball Recap: Archbishop Ryan Comes Up Short

While it was all tied up 36-36 at halftime, Archbishop Ryan was not quite Devon Prep's equal in the second half on Monday. They fell 69-56 to the Devon Prep Tide. While losing is never fun, the Raiders and Ragdolls can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 61st, while the Tide are ranked third).

Despite the loss, Archbishop Ryan still got an impressive performance from Brandon Russell, who went 7 of 10 on his way to 18 points and seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Malik Hughes, who went 6 for 12 en route to 15 points and five boards.

Reece Craft continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Devon Prep, going 10 of 15 on his way to 28 points and seven rebounds. The matchup was Craft's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Calvin Smith was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Archbishop Ryan dropped their record down to 9-11 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Devon Prep, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 14-3.

Archbishop Ryan will head out on the road to challenge Conwell-Egan Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Archbishop Ryan is facing Conwell-Egan Catholic at the right time seeing as Conwell-Egan Catholic is stuck on a ten-game losing streak. As for Devon Prep, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Archbishop Carroll at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in Devon Prep's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 12 games.
