Basketball Recap: Perkins County Falls Despite Big Games from Libby Cole and Ella Homan

If Perkins County was feeling good fresh off their 64-40 takedown of Gordon-Rushville last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Perkins County Plainsmen came up short against Valentine on Thursday, falling 57-36.

Perkins County's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Ella Homan, who posted ten points along with six steals and five rebounds, and Libby Cole, who earned six points and eight boards. Homan is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in each of the last four games she's played.

Even though they lost, Perkins County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in six consecutive games.

Valentine found their leader in sophomore Paige Sprenger, who went 10-for-24 on her way to 24 points and seven steals. That makes it five consecutive games in which Sprenger has scored at least a third of Valentine's points. Kimber Mcginley was another key player, putting up 12 points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals.

Perkins County's loss dropped their record down to 10-13. As for Valentine, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-16 record this season.

As of now, neither Perkins County nor Valentine have any future games scheduled.
