With a playoff win on the line, La Habra rose to the challenge on Friday. They blew past the El Modena Vanguards 41-7. Considering the Highlanders have won seven matchups by more than 24 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

La Habra's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but DJ Mitchell led the charge by rushing for 92 yards and a pair of scores on only nine carries, while also throwing for 133 yards and one touchdown. What's more, Mitchell posted two rushing touchdowns, the most he's had since back in September. La Habra also got a significant boost from Kevika Mata'Utia- Martinez, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 142 yards.

La Habra's run defense was locked in: El Modena could only muster 2.9 yards per carry. The team can thank Noah Barajas for the heroic effort on defense: he. La Habra is a perfect 7-0 when they shut down the run game so well.

La Habra didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Bobby Brooks and Santi Bautista Cuesta. Brooks got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

The win (which was La Habra's third in a row) raised their record to 8-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 9.0 points on average over those games. As for El Modena, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-6 record this season.

La Habra has already played their next contest, a 13-7 win against Cathedral on the 14th. El Modena does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
