Basketball Recap: Darcy Bray and Lantry Galley Secure Win for Nucla

After losing to Dove Creek the last time they met, Nucla decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Nucla Mustangs came out on top against the Dove Creek Bulldogs by a score of 39-31 on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.

Nucla was led to victory by Lantry Galley and Darcy Bray. Galley posted 11 points, while Bray put up ten points in addition to six boards and five steals. What's more, Galley also racked up four assists, the most she's had since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Cadence Shaw, who earned six steals.

Nucla smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 30 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

When it comes to explaining why Dove Creek lost, don't look at Ralynn Hickman. Despite the final result, she almost dropped a triple-double on 20 points, 12 rebounds, and nine steals. Hickman has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 17 times she's played. Taylor Hampton was another key player, putting up four points and ten boards.

Nucla pushed their record up to 12-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.0 points per game. As for Dove Creek, their loss ended an 11-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 10-4.

Nucla didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 52-18 victory against Mancos on the 30th. Dove Creek has also already played their next contest, a 64-25 win against Telluride on the 1st.
