Mt. Vernon is on a four-game streak of home wins, while Warren Central is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Mt. Vernon Marauders will host the Warren Central Warriors at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Last Wednesday, Mt. Vernon took their contest with ease, bagging a 66-32 victory over Decatur Central. Given the Marauders' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 34th, while the Hawks are ranked 218th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mt. Vernon to victory, but perhaps none more so than Zoey Wood, who went 6 of 13 on her way to 15 points in addition to eight boards and six assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Alaya Baxter, who went 7 for 12 on her way to 21 points.
Meanwhile, everything went Warren Central's way against Linton-Stockton last Friday as Warren Central made off with a 55-31 win. The Warriors have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matches by 22 points or more this season.
Mt. Vernon better keep an eye on Denell Jacobs. She was instrumental in Warren Central's win, going 11 of 14 on her way to 30 points and four steals. Jacobs is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of La'Starr Williams, who posted ten points.
Mt. Vernon has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.9 points per game. As for Warren Central, their victory bumped their record up to 12-6.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Mt. Vernon has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 22 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Warren Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32.3 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
