Basketball Recap: Elkhorn Comes Up Short

Elkhorn lost against Gretna East back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Elkhorn Antlers were dealt a 64-35 loss at the hands of the Gretna East Griffins. While losing is never fun, the Antlers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 68th, while the Griffins are ranked 15th).

When it comes to explaining why Elkhorn lost, don't look at Maggie Niles. Despite the final result, she en route to 14 points. The dominant performance gave Niles a new career-high in points. Emmy Hart also deserves some recognition as she pulled down her first rebound of the season.

Elkhorn has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-10 record this season. The victory was the sixth in a row for Gretna East, bringing their record for this year to 17-5.

Elkhorn does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Gretna East, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 50-37 defeat against Skutt Catholic on the 25th.
