Basketball Recap: Immokalee Comes Up Short

Immokalee lost against Glades Central last Thursday and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Immokalee Indians took a hard 73-58 fall against the Glades Central Raiders. While losing is never fun, the Indians can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 356th, while the Raiders are ranked 142nd).

Despite the defeat, Immokalee saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Timarian Howard almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds. The matchup was Howard's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Marshon Jackson, who posted nine points.

Glades Central's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Chris Pompilus led the charge by going 9 for 13 on his way to 20 points and five boards. Blondy Nicolas was another key player, going 5 of 7 en route to 10 points and eight assists.

Immokalee's loss dropped their record down to 12-11. As for Glades Central, their record is now 16-4.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Immokalee will square off against Palmetto Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Immokalee has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 182 points over their last three contests. As for Glades Central, they will take on Bishop Verot on Wednesday. Bishop Verot is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.8 points per game this season.
