If Decatur Central wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Southport, they should've done a better job of containing Ty'Reese Burnett. The Southport Cardinals narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Decatur Central Hawks 41-38 thanks in part to Burnett, who went 6 for 12 on his way to 14 points along with five rebounds and three steals. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played.

Another player making a difference was James Kalala, who posted six points. He is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last eight games he's played.

Despite the loss, Decatur Central still got an impressive performance from Elyas Zapata, who earned nine points and four steals. The dominant performance gave Zapata a new career-high in steals. Michael Norton was another key player, putting up three points in addition to seven boards and four blocks.

The victory made it two in a row for Southport and bumps their season record up to 10-7. As for Decatur Central, they dropped their record down to 5-12 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home.

Southport and Decatur Central could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. Southport will take on New Palestine at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday down 51 places (59 vs. 8). Meanwhile, Decatur Central (ranked 187th) will meet Terre Haute North Vigo (ranked 16th) at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
