Flag Football Game Preview: Elk Grove Thundering Herd vs. Monterey Trail Mustangs + Official Tickets

The Elk Grove Thundering Herd are taking a road trip to take on the Monterey Trail Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Elk Grove's defense has only allowed 13.8 points per game this season, so Monterey Trail's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Monterey Trail will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Elk Grove extended their winning streak to three on Thursday. The Thundering Herd strolled past Cosumnes Oaks with points to spare, taking the game 18-0. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Thundering Herd's considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California flag football rankings (they are ranked 145th, while the Wolfpack are ranked 429th).

The critical scores for Elk Grove came from Kyleann Baird and Emery Cababe.

One reason for the win was Elk Grove's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Baird.

Meanwhile, Monterey Trail unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. They had to suffer through a 41-12 loss at the hands of Pleasant Grove. The Mustangs were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 20-0.

Monterey Trail's loss dropped their record down to 14-7. As for Elk Grove, their win bumped their record up to 13-4.

Elk Grove didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Monterey Trail in their previous matchup back in September, but they still walked away with a 26-20 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Thundering Herd since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
