Baseball Recap: Shoreland Lutheran Drops Highest Score of Season Against Racine Lutheran/Prairie

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Shoreland Lutheran). They blew past the Racine Lutheran/Prairie Crusaders 17-2 on Tuesday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Slayton Smith was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Shoreland Lutheran is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-7-1 otherwise. Smith was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Chase Creuziger was incredible, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles. He is becoming a predictor of Shoreland Lutheran's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-8-1 when he doesn't). Brayden Polzin was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs and two RBI.

Shoreland Lutheran always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They are 3-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Shoreland Lutheran now has a winning record of 9-8-1. As for Racine Lutheran/Prairie, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-17.

Shoreland Lutheran will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Crusaders: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
