Baseball Recap: Coffee County Central Comes Up Short

Coffee County Central extended their losing streak to seven on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 15-15 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Columbia Central Lions. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lions this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-0 on Monday.

Coffee County Central got a good showing from Isaiah Deadman, who didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over four innings pitched. What's more, Deadman gave up only three hits, the fewest he's had since back in March.

At the plate, Cole Pippenger made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Coffee County Central is 6-3 when Pippenger posts two or more runs, but 9-12 otherwise. Davis McKenzie also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

As for Columbia Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games.

On Columbia Central's side, Gavin Beddingfield spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits.

On the hitting side, Columbia Central saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Matthew Thomas, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. That's the most runs Thomas has posted since back in March.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Coffee County Central will take on Bradley Central at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Columbia Central, they will square off against Oakland at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
