Softball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for Hart

Hart had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Monday. They came out on top against the Ludington Orioles by a score of 10-6. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Pirates also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2024.

Kelsey Copenhaver was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched six innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Caydence Bateson, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Makenna Carrier was another key player, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with six stolen bases and three runs.

Hart pushed their record up to 8-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Ludington, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-10.

Hart will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Orioles: the pair will be back at it again later today.
