Baseball Game Preview: Madawaska Owls vs. Washburn Beavers

The Madawaska Owls will head out to take on the Washburn Beavers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Madawaska had taken Wisdom down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Friday. The Owls fell 6-3 to the Pioneers.

Meanwhile, after only one run in their last contest, Washburn made sure to put some runs up on the board against Ashland on Wednesday. The Beavers put the hurt on the Hornets with a sharp 15-1 win. Considering the Beavers have won four matchups by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Tommy King made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, earning two runs and two stolen bases. He has become a key player for Washburn: the team is 5-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-5 otherwise.

In other batting news, Brayden Barnard was incredible, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and four runs. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Avery Nadeau also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Washburn's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-7. As for Madawaska, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season.

Everything went Madawaska's way against Washburn when the teams last played two weeks ago, as Madawaska made off with a 12-4 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Owls since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
