Basketball Recap: Charis Peninger's Big Game Can't Quite Lead King over Carroll

After flying high against Lockhart last Saturday, King came back down to earth. The King Mustangs took a 47-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Carroll Tigers. The loss continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now lost five in a row.

King's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Charis Peninger, who posted 14 points in addition to seven boards and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Gianna Blanco, who put up 12 points and five steals.

King's loss dropped their record down to 7-14. As for Carroll, they moved to 6-7 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

King will face off against Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Carroll, they will take on Corpus Christi Moody at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Corpus Christi Moody is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.5 points per game this season.
