Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Widefield). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Harrison Panthers a 17-0 shutout on Tuesday. With that win, the Gladiators brought their scoring average up to 6.6 runs per game.

Zane Cleaton was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Cleaton was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-1. He is becoming a predictor of Widefield's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 3-7 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nick Prantl, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. He has become a key player for Widefield: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-6 otherwise. Ethan Braun was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.

Widefield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .565. They are 4-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Widefield's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-7. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Harrison, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season.

Widefield will have a chance to go back-to-back against Harrison: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
