Basketball Recap: Veritas Academy Comes Up Short

Veritas Academy was the 68-66 winner over St. Andrew when they last played one another back in November of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Veritas Academy took a blow against the St. Andrew's Highlanders on Tuesday, falling 66-37. Veritas Academy was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-15.

Despite the loss, Veritas Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Perry Kinane posted 16 points and five steals. Kinane is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games he's played. J.P. Hagood was another key player, putting up four points along with ten boards and five blocks.

This is the second loss in a row for Veritas Academy and nudges their season record down to 4-6. As for St. Andrew's, their win was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Veritas Academy will venture away from home to challenge Brentwood Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Brentwood Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matchups -- so hopefully Veritas Academy likes a good challenge. As for St. Andrew's, they will head out to face off against Harker Heights at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
