Basketball Recap: Dekanda Fowler Worthy's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Northeast over Valiant Cross Academy

Northeast was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 61-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Valiant Cross Academy Warriors. While losing is never fun, the Raiders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 481st in Georgia, while the Warriors are ranked 25th in Alabama).

Several Raiders players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Dekanda Fowler Worthy, who went 6 for 14 on his way to 16 points and three steals. The contest was Fowler Worthy's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Keundre Jackson, who posted seven points and nine rebounds.

Even though they lost, Northeast was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Valiant Cross Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but John Cosby led the charge by going 7 of 11 on his way to 19 points in addition to six steals and five boards. Cosby is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed four or more in the last 11 games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Deshawn Hall, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds.

Northeast's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Valiant Cross Academy, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 15-0.

Northeast wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 66-45 loss against Northgate on the 30th. As for Valiant Cross Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 53-50 defeat against Riverdale on the 30th.
