Recap: Mount Vernon Mustangs vs. Greenforest Eagles
After a string of four wins, the Mount Vernon Mustangs's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They fell 61-54 to Greenforest. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Mount Vernon in their matchups with Greenforest: they've now lost four in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Mount Vernon lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kj Garris. Despite the final result, he scored 31 points along with eight rebounds. Xavier Shegog was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with seven rebounds and two blocks.
Mount Vernon's defeat dropped their record down to 12-8. As for Greenforest, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season.
Mount Vernon won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Hampton at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th. Hampton will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 373rd, while Mount Vernon is ranked 34th). Greenforest on the road again on Friday and play against Christian Heritage at 7:30 p.m. on January 19th. Christian Heritage is on a ten-game streak of home wins, Greenforest a five-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season)-- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
