Basketball Recap: Rock River Comes Up Short

Rock River was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They were outmatched by the Niobrara County Tigers and fell 49-12. The Longhorns were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-4.

Niobrara County was led to victory by Jaci Vetter and Karlei Pontarolo. Vetter posted ten points and three steals, while Pontarolo put up five points in addition to 13 rebounds and four steals. Vetter is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Hannah Krein, who earned four points and seven boards.

Rock River's defeat dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Niobrara County, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 12-4 record.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rock River will face off against Guernsey-Sunrise at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. Rock River is facing Guernsey-Sunrise at the right time seeing as Guernsey-Sunrise is stuck on a 13-game losing streak. As for Niobrara County, they will take on Lingle-Fort Laramie at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Niobrara County's defense has only allowed 28.6 points per game this season, so Lingle-Fort Laramie's offense will have their work cut out for them.
