Preview: Centennial Broncos vs. Sandy Creek Cougars
Centennial is 9-1 against Sandy Creek since December of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Centennial Broncos will be playing at home against the Sandy Creek Cougars at 7:30 p.m. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Saturday, in a tight matchup that could have gone either way, Centennial made off with a 42-41 victory over Louisville.
Centennial had a senior duo take command as Alex Hirschfeld scored 11 points along with 5 assists and 5 steals and Bryson Hornbacher scored 15 points along with 9 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which Hirschfeld has scored at least 25% of Centennial's points. Ryan Richters was another key contributor, scoring 5 points.
Meanwhile, winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 8 to 1 on the offensive boards, a fact Sandy Creek proved on Saturday. They came out on top against David City by a score of 50-40. The win made it back-to-back wins for Sandy Creek.
Sandy Creek's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ethan Shaw, who scored 15 points along with 5 rebounds and 3 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Oliver Oglesby, who scored 11 points along with 7 rebounds.
The losses dropped Centennial to 1-1 and Louisville to 0-2.
Centennial skirted past Sandy Creek 37-34 when the teams last played back in December of 2022. Will Centennial repeat their success, or does Sandy Creek have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
