Baseball Game Preview: Alameda Pirates vs. Lincoln Lancers

The Alameda Pirates will face off against the Lincoln Lancers at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. Alameda is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.9 runs per game this season.

Alameda came into their game on Saturday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 14-5 to Longmont. The Pirates' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Alan Chairez made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Meanwhile, Lincoln had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Saturday. They blew past the Commanders 16-1. Considering the Lancers have won 16 matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Lincoln got a massive performance out of Sam Trujillo, who went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, four runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases Trujillo has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Jose Bustos, who went 1-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.

Lincoln always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .588. They are 15-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Lincoln's win bumped their record up to 16-4. As for Alameda, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-5.

Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Alameda has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .567. However, it's not like Lincoln struggles in that department as they've averaged .576. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
