Softball Game Preview: Brantley Bulldogs vs. Long Rebels

The Brantley Bulldogs will head out on the road to square off against the Long Rebels at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Neither Brantley nor Long posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Brantley fell victim to Wicksburg and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Panthers, falling 9-0. The Bulldogs' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, Long has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 2.04 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Tuesday. They lost 12-2 to Wicksburg. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Rebels have suffered since May 9, 2024.

Long saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Anna Claire Free, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. Free is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

Brantley's defeat dropped their record down to 16-8. As for Long, they moved to 22-3 with that loss, which also ended their 15-game winning streak.

Brantley suffered a grim 16-6 defeat to Long in their previous meeting back in March of 2023. Can the Bulldogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
