Heritage Christian and Lapel are an even 5-5 against one another since September of 2016, but not for long. The Eagles will welcome the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Heritage Christian comes in on three and Lapel on six.
On Friday, Heritage Christian got the win against Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter by a conclusive 40-14. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won three games by 21 points or more so far this season.
Eli Nix continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 133 yards and three touchdowns, while also throwing for 218 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 71.4% of his passes. Tysen Pauwels was another key player, picking up 100 receiving yards and one score.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Heritage Christian's defense and their three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Justus Klingerman, Aidan Lyon, and Sam Sponseller, who each picked up one sack apiece. Heritage Christian got some further help from Klingerman: he picked up a sack and made 11 total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Lapel against Rushville on Friday as the team secured a 41-8 win. The Bulldogs are also no stranger to big wins: their blowout was the third contest they've won by 20+ points this season.
Heritage Christian better keep an eye on Devin Craig. He was instrumental in Lapel's win, throwing for 268 yards and five TDs on only 15 passes. That's the most passing yards Craig has posted since back in November of 2024. Andrew Evelo was Craig's top target, picking up 87 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Lapel's victory bumped their record up to 6-0. As for Heritage Christian, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.
Friday's matchup will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Nix and Craig. Nix just won't slow down this season and has thrown 12 touchdowns while averaging 184.8 passing yards per game. Craig has been a dominant force too and has thrown 17 touchdowns while averaging 199.7 passing yards per game.
Heritage Christian strolled past Lapel in their previous matchup back in October of 2024 by a score of 40-21. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
