Baseball Recap: Kyle Wayda Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Murphysboro

Jacobs won against Hononegah last Saturday with seven runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Monday. Jacobs never let the Murphysboro Red Devils get on the board and left with a 7-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Golden Eagles in their matchups with the Red Devils: they've now won three in a row.

Jacobs got several good pitching performances, but Kyle Wayda was perhaps the best, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits.

At the plate, Andrew Deegan was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3. Andrew Robertsen also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Jacobs was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Jacobs' record now sits at 4-1. As for Murphysboro, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.

Jacobs will square off against Cathedral at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Murphysboro, they will welcome Wayne City at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Wayne City has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.8 runs per game on average), something Murphysboro will no doubt try to take advantage of.
