Basketball Game Preview: Nah Tah Wahsh vs. Mackinac Island Lakers

Nah Tah Wahsh hasn't had much luck against Mackinac Island recently, but that could start to change on Friday. Nah Tah Wahsh will be playing in front of their home fans against the Mackinac Island Lakers at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Nah Tah Wahsh will bounce into Friday's game after beating Maplewood Baptist Academy, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. Nah Tah Wahsh skirted past Maplewood Baptist Academy 36-33. The win made it back-to-back victories for Nah Tah Wahsh.

Meanwhile, Mackinac Island had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31.6 points) and they went ahead and made it six last Saturday. They walked away with a 31-23 win over the Islanders.

Nah Tah Wahsh better focus on containing Lakelyn Bunker and Emma Duke as the pair were huge in Mackinac Island's win. Bunker posted eight points and 17 rebounds, while Duke put up five points and six boards. Duke is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Madison Gamble, who had nine points and five boards.

Mackinac Island pushed their record up to 14-3 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 23.8 points per game. As for Nah Tah Wahsh, their win bumped their record up to 8-4.

Things could have been worse for Nah Tah Wahsh, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 47-30 loss to Mackinac Island when the teams last played back in February of 2024.
