Baseball Recap: Westchester Country Day Takes a Loss

Westchester Country Day had lost six straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 3-10 to make it seven. They fell 5-2 to the Calvary Day School Cougars. Having soared to a lofty 17 runs in the game before, the Wildcats couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Calvary Day School, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 9-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games.

For Calvary Day School's part, they got a great performance from Anthony Hill as he tossed 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Hill has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Calvary Day School saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rex Steward, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI. Austin Setliff also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Westchester Country Day will host Gaston Day at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Wildcats are facing the Spartans at the right time seeing as the Spartans are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Calvary Day School, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Caldwell Academy at 4:30 p.m. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 8 runs per game this season.
