Softball Recap: Riley County Comes Up Short

Riley County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 13th straight loss dating back to last season. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Hiawatha Red Hawks. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Red Hawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-9 on Thursday.

Addy Zeller was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Preslee Colby, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Riley County's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Hiawatha, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Riley County will head out to take on Jefferson West at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Tigers will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something the Falcons surely won't give up without a fight. As for Hiawatha, they will challenge Royal Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
