Baseball Recap: Torres Extends Winning Streak to Ten

Torres waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with nine straight wins... but they left with ten. They blew past the Maywood Academy Nighthawks 10-0. The Toros might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by nine runs or more this season.

Robert Vargas was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Angel Tostado, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-5. Tostado is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Abraham Ramos, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4.

Torres kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in ten consecutive games.

Torres' win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.4 runs on average over those games. As for Maywood Academy, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8.

Torres and Maywood Academy will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next matches. The next time the Toros see the field they'll take on Maywood CES at 4:00 p.m. on the 21st. As for Maywood Academy, their break will end when they face Sotomayor at 3:00 p.m. on the 23rd.
