Football Game Preview: Bertrand Vikings vs. Overton Eagles

The Bertrand Vikings are taking a road trip to challenge the Overton Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Bertrand has given up an average of 35.2 points per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

On Friday, Bertrand had to suffer through a 58-12 loss at the hands of Hitchcock County. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska football rankings (they are ranked 66th, while the Falcons are ranked 11th).

Although Bertrand took the loss, they still got scores from Cooper Langford and Hunter Nelson.

Meanwhile, after only seven points in their last contest, Overton made sure to put some points up on the board against Maywood/Hayes Center on Friday. The Eagles blew past the Wolves 49-6. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Wolves: they've now won four in a row.

Overton's win came from a few key players Bertrand will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Eli Luther, who threw for 188 yards and four TDs while completing 73.7% of his passes, and also rushed for 42 yards. Another player making a difference was Gage Clifton, who rushed for 85 yards and three scores on only 12 carries.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Overton proved: they limited Maywood/Hayes Center to a paltry three yards per carry. The team can thank Luther for the heroic effort on defense: he. Overton didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 6.3.

Overton now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Bertrand, this is the second loss in a row for them and also nudges their season record down to 3-2.
