Softball Recap: St. Martin Find Success

St. Martin took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against Gulfport, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The St. Martin Yellow Jackets skirted past the Gulfport Admirals 18-16. Considering the Yellow Jackets' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

St. Martin got a massive performance out of Madalynn Broussard, who went 4-for-5 with three runs, three doubles, and three RBI. Those four hits gave Broussard a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Natalie Shoemaker, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.

St. Martin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .569. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

St. Martin moved to 7-5 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Gulfport, they moved to 5-5 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, it'll be a Battle of the Bugs St. Martin Yellow Jackets face off against East Central Hornets at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. East Central will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something St. Martin surely won't give up without a fight. As for Gulfport, they will host St. Patrick at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
