Softball Game Preview: Dr. Phillips Panthers vs. Wekiva Mustangs

The Dr. Phillips Panthers will square off against the Wekiva Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Dr. Phillips is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.1 runs per game this season.

Dr. Phillips took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They blew past Lake Buena Vista 16-1. The win continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Vipers: they've now won four in a row.

Dr. Phillips got a massive performance out of Samantha Rome, who scored three runs while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance also gave Rome a new career-high in RBI (two). Briana Lohr was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.

Dr. Phillips always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Meanwhile, Wekiva was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They lost 17-1 to Windermere.

Wekiva's defeat dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Dr. Phillips, their victory bumped their record up to 10-5.

Wekiva's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Dr. Phillips has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.1 hits per game. It's a different story for Wekiva, though, as they've been averaging 9.6 hits. Given Dr. Phillips' sizable advantage in that area, the Mustangs will need to find a way to close that gap.

Dr. Phillips took their win against Wekiva in their previous matchup back in February by a conclusive 21-5 score. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
