Basketball Recap: Mount Dora Takes a Loss

Mount Dora lost against Freedom back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Mount Dora Hurricanes took a hard 77-58 fall against the Freedom Patriots. The Hurricanes have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why Mount Dora lost, don't look at Daqavious Taylor. Despite the final result, he went 7 of 12 en route to 19 points in addition to six assists and three steals. The dominant performance gave Taylor a new career-high in assists. Another player making a difference was Jaleel Jackson, who posted 12 points.

Taylor wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Mount Dora was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Riccardo Palombarini was his usual excellent self, going 10 for 11 on his way to 22 points along with six assists and five boards for Freedom. Palombarini is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 17 or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Adam Negede, who went 5 of 10 en route to 16 points and five steals.

Mount Dora's loss dropped their record down to 4-15. As for Freedom, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-10.

Mount Dora has already played their next game, a 48-31 defeat against Winter Springs on the 22nd. As for Freedom, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Odyssey Charter School at 7:00 p.m. Freedom knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five contests -- so hopefully Odyssey Charter School likes a good challenge.
