Football Recap: Plainview Takes a Loss

Plainview was the 28-15 winner over Legacy when they last played one another back in October of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Bulldogs took a 56-42 bruising from the Leopards on Friday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game two weeks ago (37), the Bulldogs still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, Plainview still got an impressive performance from Seth Mayberry, who rushed for 97 yards and three touchdowns, and also threw for 351 yards and three TDs. Mayberry's passing game has become a key predictor of the Bulldogs' success: the team is 2-1 when his passer rating is 110 or higher, but only 1-2 otherwise. Plainview's leading receiver Jordan Porter was Mayberry's top target yet again, picking up 140 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Legacy found their leader in sophomore Ke'Shaad Johnson, who rushed for 105 yards on only nine carries. The Leopards also got help from Josiah Carter, who showed off his sure hands for 111 receiving yards.

Plainview's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Legacy, they moved to 2-5 with that win, which also ended their five-game losing streak.

Coincidentally, Plainview and Legacy will both be playing Cooper the next time they take the field. The Bulldogs will host the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Leopards will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on the 24th.
