Softball Recap: Sabino Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Sabino can now relate to. They came up short against the Empire Ravens on Wednesday, falling 6-0. The Sabercats' defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Avery Nielson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up 16 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

Sabino's loss dropped their record down to 16-12. As for Empire, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 26-1.

Sabino does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Empire, they will challenge Tanque Verde at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Hawks' pitching crew has only allowed 2.1 runs per game this season, so the Ravens' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
