Basketball Recap: Ocosta Comes Up Short

Ocosta managed to keep up with Naselle until halftime on Friday, but things quickly went downhill from there. The Ocosta Wildcats were outmatched by the Naselle Comets and fell 64-31. The Wildcats' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it four in a row.

Despite the loss, Ocosta saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Elly Mirante dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. Mirante is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last nine games she's played.

Even though they lost, Ocosta smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in ten consecutive matches.

Ocosta's defeat dropped their record down to 4-14. As for Naselle, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-7.

Coming up, Ocosta won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Tyee at 5:45 p.m. on Saturday. As for Naselle, they are taking a road trip to challenge Wahkiakum at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
