Softball Recap: Orangewood Christian Beats Trinity Christian Academy for Their Third Straight Victory

Orangewood Christian had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They walked away with an 8-4 victory over the Trinity Christian Academy Eagles. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 7-6 back in February.

Mai TellezMartinez made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. TellezMartinez was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI. That triple was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Caroline Putt, who scored four runs and stole three bases while going 4-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Mercedes Evers was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

Orangewood Christian hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most two strikeouts in three consecutive matchups.

The win got Orangewood Christian back to even at 4-4. As for Trinity Christian Academy, their loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 7-3.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Orangewood Christian is set to square off against their familiar foe Master's Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Trinity Christian Academy will face off against rival Legacy Charter at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
