Valley Center unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They took a 41-28 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bishop's Knights on Friday. If the Jaguars were looking for revenge after losing 35-19 to the Knights when the teams met back in November of 2016, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Valley Center's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mitch Stehly, who rushed for 141 yards and a pair of scores on only 12 carries, and also picked up 34 receiving yards. Stehly didn't just play on offense: he also picked up 0.5 sacks and made five total tackles. Jesse Morales was in the mix too, providing Valley Center with two touchdowns.

Cash Herrera had an outrageously good game for Bishop's as he rushed for 73 yards and three TDs, and also threw for 293 yards and three touchdowns. Those three rushing touchdowns gave Herrera a new career-high.

Coming up, Valley Center is packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will square off against Santa Fe Christian at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Bishop's, they will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Christian at 7:00 p.m. on the 30th.
