Softball Game Preview: Canajoharie Cougars vs. Duanesburg Eagles

The Canajoharie Cougars will take on the Duanesburg Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Canajoharie comes in still looking for their first win of the season.

Fonda-Fultonville hit Canajoharie with a four-run seventh inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Cougars took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Valley Hawks.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Duanesburg, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out Mayfield 4-2. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won three in a row.

Genevieve Rickert spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Gabby DeLeon was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base. Arianna Nicolella was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs.

Duanesburg pushed their record up to 6-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Canajoharie, their loss dropped their record down to 0-6.
