Baseball Recap: Roma Takes a Loss

Roma extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 14-11-1 in the process. They lost 9-0 to the Palmview Lobos. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Gladiators have suffered against the Lobos since April 16, 2021.

Roma saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ezra Gonzalez, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles. Those doubles were Gonzalez's first of the season.

As for Palmview, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games.

On Palmview's side, the result came thanks to Osi Lopez's shutout, as he gave up just five hits.

On the hitting side, Joseph Martinez was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Roma is set to face off against their familiar foe Rio Grande City at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Palmview will square off against rival Martin at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Lobos 2.4, the Tigers 2.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
