Preview: Avenal Buccaneers vs. Firebaugh Eagles
Avenal is 1-9 against Firebaugh since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Avenal Buccaneers will head out on the road to take on the Firebaugh Eagles at 6:30 p.m. Avenal is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
Last Tuesday, Avenal ended up a good deal behind Coalinga and lost 57-38. While losing is never fun, Avenal can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1248th, while Coalinga is ranked 550th).
Meanwhile, you can't lose the match if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Firebaugh's strategy against Dos Palos on Tuesday. Firebaugh strolled past Dos Palos with points to spare, taking the game 58-40.
Avenal has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-17 record this season. As for Firebaugh, their win bumped their record up to 14-11.
Avenal lost to Firebaugh on the road by a decisive 53-34 margin when the teams last played back in January. Can Avenal avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
