Basketball Game Preview: Salem Sundevils vs. Kellam Knights

The Salem Sundevils will face off against the Kellam Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Salem has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with three straight losses, while Kellam will come in with nine straight victories.

Salem is headed into the contest having just suffered their biggest defeat since January 12, 2024 on Saturday. They took a blow against Riverdale Baptist, falling 59-29. While losing is never fun, the Sundevils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 42nd in Virginia, while the Crusaders are ranked fourth in Maryland).

Meanwhile, Kellam rang in the new year with a 57-45 win over Thomas Dale on Saturday.

Kellam's victory was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-0. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.1 points per game. As for Salem, their loss dropped their record down to 6-4.

Salem came up short against Kellam in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, falling 49-42. Can Salem avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
